Is just a pillow enough to overcome pain?10 grudnia 2023 |

With neck pain, it is advisable to sleep on orthopedic pillows that have a shape supporting the physiological structure of the spine, especially its cervical and thoracic sections. It is also important to use a pillow shaped for the shoulders when sleeping on the back. The culmination, however, is a functional mattress that allows for the full utilization of sleep time for regeneration.
After cervical spine surgery, it is recommended to choose an orthopedic pillow with a truly anatomical shape. Pillows shaped like waves or soap bars are not suitable. A good orthopedic pillow that supports the cervical spine must have profiles supporting the maintenance of the physiological position of the neck and head. Additionally, it should be made of highly elastic foam to maintain dynamic support and air circulation.
For some people, a single pillow may not be enough for neck pain, as their conditions may be more complex. A well-designed and crafted orthopedic pillow will support maintaining the proper position of the head and neck during sleep. However, there are cases where discomfort is too strong and requires a more comprehensive treatment. A pillow alone will not mitigate the effects of having a mattress that is too soft or too firm.
Sleeping without a pillow is recommended only for those who sleep on their stomach. In any other case, unless advised otherwise by a doctor, sleeping with a pillow is recommended. The head and neck must have support to fully relax and allow for deep, restorative sleep.
Wave-shaped pillows should be avoided because they are not adapted to the anatomical structure of humans. Their height is usually adjusted for side sleeping, but for back sleeping, it is too large. Moreover, almost none of them have a proper indentation for the shoulder or head. In addition, most of them are cut from memory foam blocks, which start to sag during the night, causing weakened support and increased temperature, leading to sweating of the head and neck.
