Q and A, questions and answers, online mattresses
We encourage you to watch and listen to our educational videos from the Quick Insights series, which was created in response to customer requests. This series takes the form of a Q&A, where we answer questions related to mattress and pillow selection, as well as the purchasing process. The questions come directly from customers and from people who contact us for advice from our experts.

In the fifth episode of the series, we thoroughly and comprehensively answer questions related to mattress selection. We discuss why different foam mattresses from stores often lose their shape very quickly. Additionally, we talk about various types of mattresses for allergy sufferers and the right mattress covers.

Are mountains and valleys in a mattress normal?

Mr. Mariusz from Warsaw contacted us with a common question. He bought a foam mattress at one of the popular furniture store chains. He has had it for about a year and a half. Unfortunately, he is bothered by sagging in the mattress, which he reported as a complaint. As it turned out, after the mattress complaint, he was offered a new one with springs. The situation repeated very quickly. The price of both mattresses was low, not exceeding around 1600 Polish zlotys. The customer was concerned that the same issue might happen with our mattress.

We explained that at such a low price, it is virtually impossible to find a high-quality mattress anywhere. Large corporations mainly focus on numbers, not people. This means their cheap mattresses are produced at the lowest cost possible. They cannot be too expensive if they are to be sold in the hundreds of thousands on a monthly scale. As a result, they use their in-house production lines, and less often they obtain dumping prices from smaller manufacturers. The core of such cheap mattresses is always, or almost always, low-quality closed-cell foam, known as Type T foam. They also insert steel springs that are not durable.

In our manufactured best mattresses, only high-quality HR foam is used, and in their second layer, we place Visco foam, which is a perfect combination. This results in a higher mattress lifespan. Moreover, as probably the only company in Poland, we specify the complete parameters of the foams in our mattress, which is verifiable. The risk of sagging in our mattress is practically non-existent.

Why should the mattress cover be removable?

Mr. Jakub from Płock is an allergy sufferer who, due to a diagnosed dust mite allergy, is concerned about his health. He has been using his current mattress for about 10 years. He wonders how sterile a mattress needs to be to be hypoallergenic. He mentioned that he uses a mattress protector, but it's not comfortable. He also can't remove the mattress cover, which raises his doubts.

We believe that a mattress cover must be removable to be successfully and easily washed. Even in cases where the cover technology is anti-allergenic, it still needs to be refreshed from time to time. Also, when using any mattress toppers, it should be remembered that it's difficult to find one on the European market that truly allows for air circulation, which is necessary. A significant portion of the materials used are not genuinely anti-allergenic in practice, only in name.

In the case of the ONSEN® mattress, it features an extremely modern, even unique technology that allows it to be elastic in every direction while maintaining its dynamics. It is also made of material with a grammage of 550g/m2 with high resistance. Unlike many covers from other brands, it is very easy to remove and wash without limiting the mattress's functionality. Meanwhile, those with foam inside are practically impossible to clean.

FAQ: Quick Ball (5)

How long should a mattress lie after unpacking?

A good-quality mattress that hasn't been rolled up doesn't need to lie at all after unpacking. You can use it right away. Rolled mattresses that need to regain their shape are not recommended due to the potential damage to the foams inside, especially if they are T foams, which degrade quickly and easily.

How long should a new mattress be aired out?

Many manufacturers believe that a mattress should be aired out for 24-72 hours after delivery. In reality, a well-designed mattress made of fresh and properly seasoned foams allows you to use it right away after delivery to your home. The functional Osaka Air mattress doesn't require airing out or resting. You can use it in your bedroom immediately after delivery.

What type of mattress cover is hypoallergenic?

A hypoallergenic mattress cover should be made of breathable synthetic fibers that prevent the growth of microorganisms and allergens. There are modern mattress covers that contain nanocapsules and other technologies. These can limit the growth of dust mites or other allergens, and even alter their structure or destroy them. Modern hypoallergenic mattress cover technologies are used in mattresses by the Polish company ONSEN®.

How often should a mattress cover be washed?

A mattress cover should be washed whenever it becomes soiled. Periodically, you should wash it every 1-2 months, provided it is protected by a sheet and you live in relative cleanliness. Allergy sufferers or people who do not use sheets should wash the mattress cover every 2 weeks. Also, individuals whose beds are exposed to dirt should wash it more frequently.

Why does a mattress sag?

A mattress can sag when its internal components deteriorate. Most often, mattress sagging occurs when low-density foams are used, as well as traditional T foams. Steel springs, including pocket springs, often also sag. Therefore, it is essential to pay special attention to the internal construction of a specific mattress model.
