Mrs.
Monika from Tarnow asked us why most salespeople in brick-and-mortar stores often start by asking about the
budget for the mattress. The salesperson she encountered tried to explain to her that the
price of the mattress determines its quality. This raised doubts for the customer because she had heard a
similar statement from other salespeople as well. However, she wants to buy a
good mattress at a reasonable price.
In our opinion, when a salesperson asks about the budget, it should raise a yellow flag in our minds. If the salesperson in the
first few questions asks about the budget, they want to know how much they can
profit from us. Because the salesperson offers mattresses ranging from
2000 Polish zlotys to 15,000 Polish zlotys, customers get a sense of the mattress's value. However, this sense can be deceptive.
If a good foam mattress costs around
5000 Polish zlotys, with a weight of approximately
38 kilograms, for a size of 160x200, we can say that it is a
decent mattress. Such a mattress probably won't sag
too quickly because the foam density speaks to its durability. However, there's no rule that a mattress weighing
60 kilograms will be better because at some point, the density may become
too high. The best weight for a 160x200 mattress is
between 35 kilograms and 45 kilograms, and these are the foam mattresses worth considering.
The reason a salesperson asks about the
budget for a mattress is simple. If we say we have
4000 Polish zlotys for a mattress, they will try to sell us one for
5000 Polish zlotys, just slightly more expensive. However, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a
better mattress, only that they can make additional money from us. The construction of
many mattresses in brick-and-mortar stores doesn't differ much, and the same mattress can cost
from 1500 Polish zlotys to 11,000 Polish zlotys or more.
